​ 7 Students Winning "Highest Special Award" at the XIII International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Vladivostok, Russia Update Apr 13 2024

Recently, the XIII International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Vladivostok, Russia concluded, and following intense competition, 7 students from the Orchestra Department and Attached Middle School at the China Conservatory of Music secured top honors, including the prestigious "Highest Special Award."

Cello Category

Under the guidance of Professor Liu Man, Vice Director of the Orchestra Department, Zhang Youjia, an eighth-grade student from the Attached Middle School of the China Conservatory of Music, won the "Highest Special Award" in the cello category across four age groups. This marks the first time a cellist from China has achieved this prestigious award.

  Hu Jinxuan, a ninth-grade student, won first place in the junior division, Wang Zijue, an undergraduate student from the class of 2021, earned second place in the youth division, and LiHangyi, a seventh-grade student, secured third place in the junior division. The guiding teacher was Vice Director of the Orchestra Department, Professor Liu Man.

Woodwind Category

In the woodwind section, Tian Jianing, a student from the 2022 class, shared second place in the youth division, Zheng Zerun, a student from the 2021 class, shared third place in the youth division, and Wang Kaipeng, another student from the 2021 class, received an Excellence Award in the youth division. Their mentor was Associate Professor Tang Lu of the Orchestra Department.

The International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Vladivostok, Russia is every two years and has now been held for thirteen editions. The competition is supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Vladivostok Municipal Government, and the Far Eastern State Academy of Arts in Russia.

Our participants, after careful preparation and resilient effort, achieved the best results ever for our school in this competition, fully demonstrating the achievements of the Orchestra Department in discipline construction and talent training innovation. This accomplishment is a significant gift for the 60th anniversary celebration of the China Conservatory of Music.

In recent years, the Orchestra Department of the China Conservatory of Music has carried out the essential task of nurturing virtue through education, adhered to a student-oriented approach, deeply engaged in teaching core professional courses, and committed to enhancing the core competitiveness of students. This effort aims to cultivate high-quality musical performance talent with a global perspective, contributing to the school's goal of becoming a "double first-class" and high-level research university.
