On September 21, 2024, the China Conservatory of Music will mark its 60th anniversary. At this juncture, we extend our sincere regards and utmost respect to the leaders at all levels who have long supported the school's development, as well as to our vast community of domestic and international alumni and friends from various sectors!
Born for the country, guided by an original mission. Sixty years ago, in response to the requirements of the development of new socialist national music, Premier Zhou Enlai proposed the establishment of a specialized higher education institution focusing on Chinese national music education, research, and the cultivation of talent in the field of national music. He personally named it the "China Conservatory of Music". After meticulous planning and construction by eminent experts and scholars in national music education such as An Bo, Ma Ke, and Guan Hetong, the China Conservatory of Music was formally inaugurated on September 21, 1964, at the Prince Gong's Mansion in Beijing. Passing through the period of the Conservatory of Music at the Central Five and Seven Arts Academy, it was reestablished in 1980 and relocated to its present site at No. 1 Anxiang Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing in 1987. Over sixty years, through challenges and progress, successive generations at the China Conservatory of Music have not forgotten Premier Zhou Enlai's educational instructions, remaining steadfast in the mission to build China's national music education system and collectively composing a magnificent chapter in China's higher music education.
Since its inception, the China Conservatory of Music has embraced the spirit of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Yan'an, upholding the school motto of "Kindness, Honesty, Erudition and Cultivation". It has established its foundation in Beijing while serving the nation and reaching out globally. The institution has made remarkable contributions to the preservation, development, and publicity of Chinese music. From the Prince Gong's Mansion to the banks of Jianxiang Bridge, the sounds of silk and bamboo have nurtured musical excellence. The school remains committed to being deeply rooted in the land of China, educating for the Party and the nation, guided by a creative and talent-focused philosophy centered on the people, and committed to the educational concept of "Inherit Chinese Culture, Raise Chinese Melody, Train Chinese Talents, Develop Chinese Music." This approach has nurtured numerous virtuous and skilled musical artists and produced a wealth of classic musical compositions that stand the test of time, earning the title of the "cradle of Chinese musicians."
After a 60-year's worth of accumulation, the China Conservatory of Music has seized the opportunities of the era and strides forward with the vision of establishing a "world-class higher music institution with Chinese characteristics". In the pursuit of building a socialist cultural powerhouse and education stronghold, it has generated robust momentum for high-quality development. The cultural industry stands as a significant endeavor for the Party and the people. Spurring cultural prosperity, building a cultural powerhouse, and creating a modern civilization for the Chinese nation represent new cultural missions. Today's China Conservatory of Music stands in its prime, narrating Chinese stories through music, spreading Chinese sounds, and displaying the essence of China. It is vigorously dedicated to becoming a vanguard in carrying forward the red tradition, promoting Chinese national music culture, cultivating musical talents, and spearheading the establishment of a national music think tank.
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, we will unite the wisdom and strength of all faculty, students, domestic and international alumni, and friends from various sectors to use the 60th anniversary of the school as a new starting point. We will vigorously advance the construction of "Double First-Class" and a high-level research university to contribute to the comprehensive establishment of a socialist modernized country and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
All faculty and students of the China Conservatory of Music extend a sincere invitation to leaders at all levels, domestic and international alumni, as well as friends from diverse backgrounds who care and support the school's development to visit during the 60th-anniversary celebration and school anniversary activities. We eagerly anticipate discussing profound friendships, outlining developmental blueprints, and deliberating on our collective progress.
