During the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in 2018, the Everlasting Classics program, which has been broadcasted by CCTV on every Saturday during the Spring Festival, arouse heated discussion among the representatives. Seventeen members of the National Committee of the CPPCC submitted a joint proposal “Promote classics to enter primary and secondary school classes through the program Everlasting Classics”.

As the initiator of the proposal, WANG Liguang, President of China Conservatory of Music, suggested combining classical poetry with song writing to promote the entry of classics into primary and secondary school classes and the public cultural centers. WANG Liguang said the popularity of this program actively promoted the inheritance of culture and was conducive to subtly implanting outstanding traditional culture into everyone’s heart.

Members of the CPPCC from the literary and art circles, including XI Meijuan and GONG Hanlin, expressed their strong support for this proposal.

CHEN Baosheng, Minister of Education, said in an interview that he also likes the program very much. The Education Department is willing to spare efforts to promote this remarkable work to make classics become a work that students can sing at any time, and they can be circulated forever in singing and recitation.
