President Wang Liguang Meets with Canadian Public Diplomacy Counselor in China Update Dec 08 2017

On the morning of November 7, 2017, Wang Liguang, Chairman of the Global Music Education League and President of China Conservatory of Music, met with Mr. Martin Laflamme, Public Diplomacy Counselor of the Embassy of Canada in China, and diplomatic staff from the embassy, at the VIP room of the Grand Concert Hall of China Conservatory of Music. They made in-depth discussions on the prospect of cooperation between the two sides in the field of cultural exchange. Li Xiujun, Director of the International Exchange Department of China Conservatory of Music, Wang Cui, Secretary-General of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Chinese National School of Music and relevant staff attended the meeting.

President Wang Liguang first welcomed Mr. Martin Laflamme and his entourage and introduced the history and general situation of China’s higher music education as well as the school-running concept and characteristics of China Conservatory of Music. He also elaborated on the Chinese National School of Music advocated by China Conservatory of Music and its conceptualization. President Wang said that music does not only amount to singing and playing musical instruments. Further, music plays an important role in promoting the progress of human civilization and even world peace.
President Wang pointed out that the Global Leadership Network on Higher Music Education held in September this year and the Global Music Education League established during the event have not only created a bridge of friendship between world-class conservatories, but also forged a bond with strategic significance for cultural exchange and mutual learning among different countries.

Counselor Martin Laflamme first congratulated President Wang on his election as Chairman of the Global Music Education League and believed that it is of far-reaching significance beyond music for China Conservatory of Music to have successfully launched the Global Leadership Network on Higher Music Education and established the Global Music Education League. Counselor Martin Laflamme said that China Conservatory of Music is the first Chinese university he visited after serving as Public Diplomacy Counselor of the Embassy of Canada in China, and he hoped to promote further exchanges between China and Canada in the cultural and artistic fields through the platform provided by China Conservatory of Music.
Counselor Martin Laflamme once served as a bass player in a band, and he thus has a special passion for music. After the meeting, Counselor Martin Laflamme visited the campus accompanied by relevant staff of our school and watched the Chinese instrumental chamber music rehearsal class.
