Secretary Wang Xudong Meets with the Delegation of the University of the Arts Singapore Update Mar 25 2023

On the afternoon of March 23, 2023, Wang Xudong, Secretary of Party Committee of China Conservatory of Music, met with the visiting delegation from the University of the Arts Singapore made up of Dr. Lin Hanchong, Dean of School of Performing Arts, Dr. Cheng Xiurong, Vice Dean of School of Music, and Sun Tat Wong, Head of Chinese Instrumental Studies. The two sides conducted deep and pragmatic discussions on the future cooperation between the two institutions, and in particular, exchanged views on conducting multi-level and profound exchanges and interactions in all respects, which enhanced their mutual understanding. Jin Ye, Director of International Exchange Department, and relevant staff members of the department were among the attendants.

During the meeting, Secretary Wang Xudong said that the internationalization of school-running is one of the key indicators for building an international first-class university. The China Conservatory of Music is quite willing to conduct exchanges and cooperation activities with foreign institutions with such contents as two-way teacher visits, student exchanges for short- and medium-term courses, and co-organized cultural events. The China Conservatory of Music shoulders the mission of inheriting, developing, and disseminating Chinese music. We have long conducted exchanges with the arts community in Singapore, and we hope to further enhance academic exchanges in the future.

Dean Lin Hanchong gave an introduction of University of the Arts Singapore, which is the first art university in Singapore founded on an alliance of Singapore's two well-known art institutions, Lasalle College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. The university has pooled high-quality resources for art education in Singapore, and has established in-depth cooperative relationships with world-renowned institutions such as the Royal College of Music. This visit to the China Conservatory of Music is intended for further breakthroughs in the field of pedagogy based on previous excellent cooperation.

After the meeting, under the guidance and introduction of Director Jin Ye, Dean Lin Hanchong and his delegation visited the concert hall and teaching buildings of the Conservatory, and observed the rehearsal courses of the Orchestral Instruments Performing Department, and the Chinese Instruments Performing Department.
