CHINA CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC  

The China Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the creation of the First China International Music Competition scheduled to run from May 4 through 21, 2019 in Beijing.

 

The Conservatory has decided to award a first prize in an unprecedented amount of US$150,000. The second and third prizes will be US$75,000 and US$30,000 respectively. An international artists management company has been secured to arrange for three years of managed international tours for the Gold Medalist.

 

The Conservatory is also proud to announce that it has secured the services of the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by its music director Yannick Nezet Seguin to perform the concert with the three finalists in the Final Round of the Competition.

 

An illustrious international jury of 11 members has been assembled and they include Li-guang Wang(President and Artistic Director of China International Music Competiton), Arie Vardi, Dmitri Alexeev, Fabio Bidini, Jan Jiracek von Arnim, Katarzyna Popowa- Zydron, Boris Berman, Lydia Artymiw, Michel Beroff, Veda Kaplinsky (Artistic Director of Piano Competition and Chairman of Jury) and Warren Jones.

 

Invited from all over the world will be 20 outstanding competitors who will perform a recital in the Preliminary Round. 12 pianists will then be selected to perform an additional recital as well as collaborate in vocal recital in the Semifinal Round. The First Phase of the Final Round will include six pianists playing a classical concerto with a chamber orchestra after which three will be selected for the Second Phase of the Final Round to play with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

 

In announcing the Competition, the President of the China Conservatory of Music, Professor Li-guang Wang, will serve as the President of the First China International Music Competition and he is delighted to have secured Veda Kaplinsky as Artistic Director of Piano Competition and Chairman of the jury and Mr. Richard Rodzinski to serve as General Director of the Competition.
