On December 22, 2017, the Department of Musicology of China Conservatory of Music held a report of The Indonesia Gamelan Music Teaching Season at the Report Hall 201 of the new teaching building.
Before the performance, President WANG Liguang, accompanied by Professor LI Xiujun, the Director of International Exchange Department, met with Ms. Sri Remaytin, culture and education counselor of Indonesia Embassy in China. President Wang introduced school’s general development situation and the establishment work of “Global Leadership Network on Higher Music Education”, “Global Music Education League” and “Chinese School of Music” which were held recently. Both parties are hoped to establish more connection, and enhance mutual cultural communication. Ms. Sri Remaytin congratulated us on the successful hosting of the teaching season, and expressed thanks to our school behalf of Indonesian Embassy in China.
This teaching season started on September 29th, Mr. Ris nandar and Ms. Titik Parmuji of Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Surakarta were invited to teach all students majoring in Musicology the Gamelan performance and a variety of traditional dances in the traditional form: passing on by word of mouth, in learning, students cooperated with each other to feel the wonder and harmony of Gamelan music.
The report included “Baris tunggal”, “Juru pencar”, “Pedet” and other Gamelan instrumental music, as well as traditional Indonesian dances such as “Golek Tiro Kencana” and “Pejuang”. The rich variety of programs and wonderful performance of students won applause of audiences. After the report, all the teachers and students took photos together.
The Gamelan Music Teaching Season embodied the unique curriculum design, broad academic vision and good academic atmosphere of the Department of Musicology. Students not only accepted education from two levels: education in theory and practice, but also have a profound understanding and experience of the diversified world music culture.
