From April 11 to 12, Zhao Leji, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met in Pyongyang with Choe Ryong-hae, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, and both attended the "China-DPRK Friendship Year" opening ceremony.

On April 12, both sides watched a performance by the visiting Chinese art troupe and the North Korean art troupe, held concurrently. Artists from both countries showcased unique and wonderful programs, and performed songs together such as Red Flag Fluttering and Korea-China Friendship Will Be Last Forever elevating the atmosphere to a climax. The performance was emotionally powerful, expressing the beautiful desire of the people of China and North Korea to inherit and enhance the traditional friendship between the two nations. It strongly resonated with the audience, eliciting prolonged and enthusiastic applause.
On the evening of April 13, Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, attended a special concert by the China National Traditional Orchestra at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater.
Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Standing Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, director of the WPK Organization and Guidance Department, Jo yong-won, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Korea, Secretary Ri Il-hwan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and candidate member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Korea, Choe Son-hui, International Affairs Director and candidate member of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Korea, Kim Song-nam, Deputy Department Director of the Central Committee of Korea, Kim Yo-jong, along with representatives from various sectors in Pyongyang, and ambassadors from Russia, Vietnam, Mongolia, among other diplomatic envoys totaling 1,800 people attended. Sun Yeli, Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, and Wang Yajun, Chinese Ambassador to North Korea, accompanied them.
Accompanied by the melodious tune of the national orchestral piece Guofeng, the performance commenced. The large drum performance Five Blessings Arrive used a folk music style common in northern China to express the best wishes to the North Korean people. Chinese singers passionately performed the North Korean classic I Love Pyongyang, expressing the North Korean people's deep love for Pyongyang and their homeland, which resonated strongly with the audience, eliciting waves of applause. The national orchestral piece Silk Road played a symphony of ethnic integration and cultural harmony. The erhu and orchestra concerto Butterfly Lovers conveyed the cherished and respected sincere feelings. The pipa concerto Fuji Tianchang, and songs such as Never Forget the Original Aspiration, Inch Heart, Red Flag Fluttering, New Land, My Motherland... each piece vividly showcased distinctive national characteristics, diverse expressions, and a strong contemporary spirit, pushing the evening to continuous climaxes. Finally, accompanied by the chorus Korea-China Friendship Will Be Last Forever, the performance concluded amid enduring enthusiastic applause.
Secretary General Kim Jong Un watched the entire performance, applauding vigorously for the Chinese artists' splendid performances. After the performance, the North Korean side, in the name of Secretary General Kim Jong Un, specially presented a bouquet of flowers to congratulate the success of the performance. Kim Jong Un went on stage to shake hands with the main performers, highly praising their exquisite skills, and took a commemorative photo with everyone.
On April 10, Wang Yajun, the Chinese Ambassador to North Korea, met with Li Xincao, President of the China Conservatory of Music, who came to North Korea to participate in the "China-DPRK Friendship Year" activities. Both sides exchanged views on using music as a bridge to intensify cultural and artistic exchanges and cooperation during the "China-DPRK Friendship Year," and to foster friendly sentiments among the peoples of both countries.
