On December 6, 2017, conferment of the honorary doctorate upon  Professor PENG Liyuan, an outstanding alumna of our school, was held by Juilliard School in the National Music Hall of our school. The President of Juilliard School, Joseph W. Polisi  and the Chairman of the Council of the school, came to China for attending.

At the ceremony,  Preident Polisi awarded Professor PENG Liyuan an honorary doctorate certificate and addressed an ebullience speech, speaking highly of professor PENG Liyuan’s artistic achievements. He said that music can narrow the gap between different people and culture, it was music that let Juilliard School meet Professor PENG Liyuan, and Julliard hoped to become the cultural ties between the United States and China.

Professor PENG Liyuan said in reply, “I am very honored to accept honorary doctorate from The Juilliard School in my alma mater-China Conservatory of Music. It is not only my personal honor, but also appreciation for the Chinese national music art, and even the embodiment of increasingly tight Sino-US cultural exchanges. I hope to build more spiritual bridges between Chinese and American people through music, and wish the cooperation and communication between Chinese and American art schools and institutions, including Juilliard School and China Conservatory of Music to be deepened continuously.

President WANG Liguang delivered a speech to congratulate Professor PENG Liyuan. He hoped that China Conservatory of Music would strengthen exchanges with world-renowned music schools including Juilliard School, and together contribute to the promotion of world music education.

At the ceremony, En Shao, the famous conductor, and Director of Conducting Department of CCM, conducted the Huaxia Orchestra to play three China-style songs, and students of Juilliard School performed a string quartet.

Before the ceremony, President Polisi visited our school’s teaching building and watched students’ rehearse, and exchanged ideas with teachers and students on music teaching.
