On the evening of November 8, 2022, showcase on Chinese Instrument teaching in theundergraduate education system of Chinese National School of Music——The concert by famous musicians from Chinese Instrument Department of China Conservatory of Music was successfully performed in National Center For The Performing Arts . With the philosophy to "Inherit Chinese Culture, Raise Chinese Melody, Train Chinese Talents, Develop Chinese Music", based on the development of the "Chinese National School of Music", the China Conservatory of Music is committed to advancing the development of China's music education system, which presents the responsibility and undertaking of the times. This concert is under the conduct of Xu Zhijun, the Distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of Chinese Instrument of the China Conservatory of Music, and is presented by Guzheng player Wang Zhongshan, Deputy Head of the Department of Chinese Instrument, together with Dizi playerDai Ya, Pipa player Zhang Qiang, and Huqin playerJiang Kemei, as well as China National Traditional Orchestra. The enthusiastic applause that lasted throughout the whole venue allowed this artistic feast with many famous artists to further enchant the audience, and the applause continued after the two extra pieces were performed in the return performance.

The solo works performed in this concert are all listed in the standard course materials of the Chinese National School of Music's curriculum for undergraduate courses in the Department of Chinese Instrument. The orchestralworksare the repertoires composed by three faculty members of the Composition Department of the China Conservatory of Music. The wonderful performance of Wang Zhongshan, Dai Ya, Zhang Qiang and Jiang Kemei, four famous Chinese musicians, is a comprehensive presentation of the exemplary and highly artistic teaching repertoire of the curriculum of the Chinese National School of Music. The unique charm of the work in the style of the "Chinese National School of Music" was highlighted by the interpretation of the work by conductor Xu Zhijun and the wonderful concerto by China National Traditional Orchestra, which were intertwined with the soloist's performance.

Festival Overture

The concert kicked off with the classic Festival Overture by Professor Shi Wanchun from the Department of Composition of the China Conservatory of Music. The light and joyful melody instantly dragged the audience into the warm atmosphere of universal celebration and joy of all the people, while the majestic suona and orchestra variations depicted a festive and warm picture in front of the audience. By combining folk music materials into a sonata style, the distinctive characteristic of the "Chinese National School of Music" is presented.

Love in Qinchuan

The second piece of the concert was Love in Qinchuan by bamboo flute player Dai Ya. It was composed by flute player Zeng Yongqing and is listed in the third academic year of the curriculum of the Chinese National School of Music. The musical material of the Qin cadence and bowl cadence of Shaanxi Province in the work have displayed the enthusiasm and boldness of people in Qinchuan. The performance of Professor Dai Ya varied from deep and introspective to passionate one, with a diversity of musical images, flexibility and rigidity, as well as appropriate skills. His improvisation in the latter part of the work made the audience deeply appreciate the unique charm of Chinese opera music.

Spring and Autumn Period

Composed by Tang Jianping, the pipa concerto Spring and Autumn Period is listed in the third year of the curriculum of the Chinese National School of Music. It is intended to commemorate the important Spring and Autumn period in Chinese history. With an explosive and lyrical performance, Professor Zhang Qiang revealed the profound meaning of the "Spring and Autumn Period" in Chinese culture to the audience. With the organic integration of musical emotions, skills, layers, colors and vocabulary, audiences experienced the admiration and praise of Chinese people for their ancient splendor and profound cultural achievements.

The Light and Shadow of Dance

The ethnic orchestra The Light and Shadow of Dance composed by Professor Zhu Lin of the Composition Department of the China Conservatory of Music is compact, smooth and impersonal, whose rhythm is bright and dynamic, presenting a dynamic picture of light and shadow with harmonious unity and contrasts of light and dark to audiences through the timbre changes of different instrument groups. With its colorful performance of plucked instruments, audiences were amazed by the timbral characteristics and acoustic charm of the national orchestra.

Huabangzi

Performed by Jiang Kemei, Hua Bangzi is a concerto composed by Yan Shaoyi and adapted by Liu Yuan, which is listed in the second year of the curriculum of the Chinese National School of Music. It is characterized by a high and exciting tune, providing a strong local flavor. With her gorgeous and delicate technique, gentle and elegant stage style, Jiang Kemei performed this classic piece of Banhu, which was originated from Hebei Bangzi, with deep emotion. In the splendid section, her delicate and fast bowing and the orchestra's echoing competition made audiences dazzled and mesmerized.

The River All Red

Performed by Zhongshan Wang, Deputy Head of the Department of Chinese Music at the China Conservatory of Music and a Guzheng player, The River All Red is a guzheng concerto composed by composer He Zhanhao, which is based on the traditional piece The River All Red and written in a single subject variation. It is listed in the first academic year of the curriculum of the Chinese National School of Music. With his sophisticated skills and colorful tone control, Professor Wang presented the national hero Yue Fei's "Thirty years: rank and honor, just so much dust; Eight hundred leagues: traveling with the moon and clouds." in an impassioned manner, further sublimating the emotions of the melody with his transcendent and atmospheric interpretation.

Night-Rhythm (excerpt)

The final piece of the concert was an excerpt from Night-Rhythm composed by Associate Professor Luo Maishuo from the Department of Composition of the China Conservatory of Music. It is composed of two parts, Night and Rhythm, whose tones are inspired by the tones of the Yi minority in China, depicting the joyful and romantic gathering of young men and women during the Yi family festival. Its melody was characterized with minority music, with abundant and exquisite orchestration, and passionate music mood. As the work ended, a long-lasting cheer and applause erupted from the audience.

The seven works performed in this concert range across a variety of musical styles, with a diverse orchestra arrangement and a fusion of Chinese and Western compositional skills. The concert presented the profound history and culture of China, depicted the magnificent mountains and rivers of the country, and reproduced the picture of singing and dancing of compatriots from ethnic minorities. It presents a warm and dazzling Chinese music concert with the colorful timbre and vivid artistic expression unique to Chinese national music, revealing the diversity and inclusiveness of Chinese music. The audience on site was enthusiastic in their response. With the extra performance of Wonderful Night and Blooming Flowers and Full Moon, conductor Xu Zhijun and his orchestra brought the concert to the climax again.
