Chinese Language Programs
The Chinese Language Program is designed for students who wish to cultivate or improve upon their Chinese language skills.
Each semester, the China Conservatory of Music organizes language-teaching classes at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Students are to be placed in classes that suit them best by taking a proficiency test upon arrival. A class is usually composed of 15-20 students. The spring semester usually starts from late February and the autumn semester from early or middle September. A semester usually consists of 18 weeks with 20 class hours of language courses per week. Electives are offered for students to choose from one to three courses according to the students’ interest and Chinese capacity. Field trips are arranged once or twice each semester. This program is available year round and can be tailored to suit individual needs and preferences (minimum of a 4 week stay.)
Long-term studies
Duration: One semester minimum
Long-term studies provide students with an immersive experience in Chinese language and culture. Students are also given the opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of life in Beijing. This program is suitable for those students who want a truly immersive experience.
Short-term studies
Duration: 4 weeks to one semester
Students who want to improve their language skills and understanding of Chinese culture should but do not have the time for an extended stay in China should consider attending the short-term language program. Short-term studies range from 4-16 weeks and provide students with a “crash course” in Chinese language and culture. Individual short-term students are accepted with no time restriction year round and are placed in appropriate classes depending language skills.

*Can be taken simultaneously with the Music Program
*Students can also take up to 3 electives within the Conservatory music, music education, music administration, etc.
