On the morning of November 29, 2017, Wang Liguang, Chairman of the Global Music Education League and President of China Conservatory of Music, met with Mr. Jarno Syrj?l?, Ambassador of Finland to China, and Mr. Jyri Lintunen, Press and Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of Finland in China, at the VIP room of the Grand Concert Hall of China Conservatory of Music. They discussed further cooperation and exchange between China Conservatory of Music and Finland’s conservatories and cultural institutions in the future. Li Xiujun, Director of the International Exchange Department of China Conservatory of Music, Wang Cui, Secretary-General of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Chinese National School of Music and relevant staff attended the meeting.

President Wang Liguang first welcomed Ambassador Jarno Syrj?l? and introduced the history and general situation of China’s higher music education as well as the school-running concept and characteristics of China Conservatory of Music. He also elaborated on the Chinese National School of Music advocated by China Conservatory of Music and its conceptualization. Speaking of the music culture in Finland, President Wang said that the contributions made by the Finnish musician Sibelius are not only reflected in his great musical works, but also mirrored in his efforts to carry forward patriotism and national spirits through his works. This is what musicians and music educators should strive to pursue.
According to President Wang, the active response and participation of the Sibelius Academy (Finland) in the Global Leadership Network on Higher Music Education held in September this year is also based on the profound friendship between China and Finland. In addition, the Sibelius Academy, as a world-class conservatory, was elected as a member of the first Board of Directors of the Global Music Education League, demonstrating Finland’s significant global influence in the music culture. The establishment of the league has not only created a bridge of friendship between world-class conservatories, but also forged a bond for cultural exchange and mutual learning among different countries.

Ambassador Jarno Syrj?l? first congratulated President Wang Liguang on his election as Chairman of the Global Music Education League. Ambassador Jarno Syrj?l? said that although he is a new Finnish ambassador to China, he has long heard of the establishment of the Global Music Education League, and has been very much looking forward to making more contributions to the cultural exchange between China and Finland and helping promote the cooperation between China Conservatory of Music and Finland’s higher education institutions and arts institutions with the help of the league as a platform, through his capacity as an ambassador during his term of office.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Jarno Syrj?l? sincerely invited President Wang to the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Finland’s Independence organized by the Embassy of Finland in China next month, and hoped that this would be taken as an opportunity to start richer cultural communications in the future.
