President WANG Liguang Meets with Vice President of Northwestern University Update Mar 28 2018

CHINA CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC  

WANG Liguang, Chairman of Global Music Education League, President of China Conservatory of Music, met with Mrs. Devora Grynspan, Vice President for International Relations of Northwestern University, Toni Marie, Dean of Bienen School of Music of Northwestern University and Alex J. Herrera, Executive Director of International Development in the morning on 25 March, 2018. Both sides exchanged views on future deep cooperation and communication. LI Xiujun, Director of the International Exchange Department, WANG Cui, General Secretary of Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Chinese National School of Music, GAO Ying, Director of Party Office and other officers were also in attendance.

President WANG Liguang extended a warm welcome to Dean Toni Marie and introduced the philosophy and characteristics of school-running in China Conservatory of Music, as well as the founding of Global Music Education League and the successful holding of Global Leadership Network on Higher Music Education. WANG emphasized on the Chinese School of Music and its connotation that China Conservatory of Music advocated and established. A wish of sharing the best resources among the colleges in the league to cultivate musical talents with international view and ability and allow music to be the peace-maker among the countries was expressed by WANG when he mentioned the international cooperation based on Global Music Education League.

Dean Toni Marie showed her appreciation and congratulations to China Conservatory of Music for hosting Global Music Education League and expressed Bienen School of Music of Northwestern University’s expectation to be a member of the league. She introduced that Bienen School of Music of Northwestern University enjoys equal popularity with The Juilliard School and Cleveland Institute of Music, is the eighth best music academy in the US with 2 famous world-class competitions and 16 orchestras. She regretted much for missing the first Global Leadership Network on Higher Music Education last September and expressed her wish to join in before the first Board Meeting this year. Meanwhile Dean Toni Marie wanted to search for direct cooperation between Bienen School of Music of Northwestern University and China Conservatory of Music, thus to establish more linkage and cooperation in student exchange, mutual certificate for the credit and recruitment of orchestra in the future.

At the end of the meeting, Dean Toni Marie sincerely invited President WANG Liguang to visit Bienen School of Music of Northwestern University, which locates at the shore of Lake Michigan, during his trip to the US in October to deepen the mutual understanding and promote richer variety of exchange activities in the future.
