First China International Music Competition Rules and Regulations & Repertoire Requirements Update May 10 2019

General Rules

1.    The First China International Music Competition will be held in Beijing from May 4 to 21, 2019. It was established by the China Conservatory of Music (hereinafter called “CCM”).
2.    The discipline of the 2019 Competition is piano.
3.    Pianists must be between 18 and 28 years of age on the date of the opening of the Competition.
4.    The competitors should not have any other professional engagements during the Competition.
5.    The CCM will provide each competitor with a round-trip economy class airfare or train ticket from his/her place of residence to Beijing.
6.    All competitors will be provided with hotel accommodations and meals from May 1st through the end of Competition. Competitors will, however, be responsible for their own accommodations and meals on any days falling outside of this time period.
7.    Foreign competitors will be responsible for obtaining their passports and any necessary visas. They should apply at the nearest Chinese Consulate upon receiving a formal invitation from the Competition.
8.    The CCM reserves the right to make changes to the rules if circumstances dictate, but not later than two months before the opening of the Competition. In case of any difference between the Chinese and English-language versions of texts and rules, the Chinese-language version will be considered definitive.


Rules and Procedures of the Competition

1.    The Competition will be divided into three separate parts: a Preliminary Round, a Semifinal Round and a Final Round. The Preliminary Round will consist of a 50-minute recital; The Semifinal Round will consist of a 70-minute recital and a 45-minute recital with a singer; The Final Round will consist of a classical concerto with a chamber orchestra and a concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
All timings are inclusive of applause. All rounds will be open to the public. All works must be played from memory, except for the work commissioned for the Competition.
2.    The jury will not advance more than 12 pianists to the Semifinal Round, not more than 6 to phase I of the Final Round and 3 to phase II of the Final Round.
3.    The order of appearance of competitors in the Preliminary Round will be determined by a draw. The competitors will follow this order in all rounds of the competition except, at the discretion of the general director, for reasons of accident, illness, or other unusual circumstances.
4.    The competitors will be provided with practice time in a number of rehearsal facilities and the opportunity to rehearse on stage prior to each round.
5.    A selection of pianos will be provided for the pianists on May 1through 3, 2019.
6.    All rounds of the Competition may be broadcast and webcast live and may be recorded and videotaped for subsequent broadcast, video, and audio use. Parts or all of the Competition will be made available on the Internet. Competitors will be required to sign a release form yielding all rights on such materials to the CCM and its assignees or licensees. Neither the CCM nor its assignees or licensees may be held liable for any payments to competitors relating to materials derived from competition performances.
7.    Competitors may not contact or speak with any member of the jury as long as they continue to participate in the Competition. Any violation of this rule may disqualify the competitor.
8.    Decisions of the jury are final and may not be appealed.


Rules and Procedures Relating to Repertoire

1.    All repertoire that pianists select must be sent to us by January 1, 2019.
2.    The repertoire for the singers will be determined by January 1, 2019.
3.    Any changes in repertoire that had been submitted must be approved by no later than March 1, 2019.


Rules Relating to Prizes and Engagements

The First China International Music Competition will award the following prizes:
First Prize US $150,000 and a Gold Medal
Second Prize US $ 75,000 and a Silver Medal
Third Prize US $ 30,000 and a Crystal Medal
Three Finalists (Non-Medalists) US $ 10,000 each and a Diploma
Best Performance of the Commissioned Work US $ 5,000 and a Diploma

1.    A First Prize will be awarded.
2.    All prize amounts will be subject to local tax.
3.    Chinese residents will be paid in RMB in accordance with the exchange rate of the Bank of China on the date of payment.
4.    The CCM will prepare the list of potential recital and orchestral engagements for the laureates of the Competition, to be performed within a three-year period following the Competition. The list of engagements, which form part of the prizes, will be published in the competition program book.
5.    Scheduling of engagements will take into account any prior commitments of the laureates, but the laureates will be expected to fulfill all prize engagements.
6.    Failure to do so may result, at the discretion of the CCM, in forfeiture of a laureate’s claim to any future engagements.

独奏音乐会:本轮每位参赛选手将演奏一场独奏音乐会,时长不超过50分钟。音乐会曲目应包括以下三个时期的作品:古典主义时期、浪漫主义时期、现代及当代。

参赛选手必须完整演奏所选作品。

半决赛

一.独奏音乐会:本轮每位参赛选手将演奏一场独奏音乐会,时长不超过70分钟。演奏曲目将包括选手的自选曲目和一首大赛委约作品(该作品时长不超过10分钟)。不得重复之前轮次的曲目。

参赛选手必须完整演奏所选作品。


二.声乐作品音乐会:时长为45分钟,所有参赛选手将与一名声乐艺术家共同表演。曲目待定。



决赛:

第一阶段:

参赛选手将与室内乐团合作演奏一首钢琴协奏曲,曲目将从以下列表中选取:


贝多芬:

《C大调第一钢琴协奏曲》

《降B大调第二钢琴协奏曲》

莫扎特:

《D小调第二十钢琴协奏曲》

《C大调第二十一钢琴协奏曲》

《降E大调第二十二钢琴协奏曲》

《C小调第二十四钢琴协奏曲》


第二阶段:

决赛参赛选手将与费城交响乐团合作演奏一首钢琴协奏曲,曲目将从以下列表中选取:

《D小调第三钢琴协奏曲》

《帕格尼尼主题狂想曲》

柴可夫斯基:

《降B小调第一钢琴协奏曲》

李斯特:

普罗科菲耶夫:

Preliminary Round
Recital: Each pianist will perform a recital not to exceed 50 minutes in length and consisting of a work from each of the following three periods: Classical, Romantic and Post-Romantic.

Only complete works will be accepted.



Semifinal Round
Ⅰ. Recital: Each pianist will perform a recital not to exceed 70 minutes in length. The repertoire will consist of works chosen by the pianist and must include the composition written for the Competition (no more than 10 minutes in length). Repertoire from the previous rounds may not be repeated. Only complete works will be accepted.

Ⅱ. A vocal recital of 45 minutes together with a singer of repertoire to be decided.
