Undergraduate Courses of Orchestral Instruments Department

  • A four-year program

  • Degree: Bachelor of Arts

  • Graduation Requirements

Get all credits stipulated and pass the graduation exam. The graduation exam includes: a graduation project report has no less than 3000 words, give a graduation concert ( no less than 30 minutes).

Requirements of graduation concert: The concert shall cover two aspects: 1. Solo works. 2. Chamber music. And the concert shall cover different style periods, and one of them shall be a Chinese composition.

Complete Aural Skills Level Five and English Level Two.

  • Course Structure and Credit Distribution (Not less than 158 credits)

  • Main courses of the major (Not less than 18 credits)

14 credits of main courses, 2 credits of minor instruments, no less than 2 credits of other elective courses.

  • Characteristic Courses (Not less than 14 credits)

7 credits of Sight Reading New Works,7 credits of Chinese Works Performance.

  1. Basic Courses of Subjects (Not less than 40 credits)

Direction of Musicology: 4 credits of Basic Chinese Traditional Music, 4 credits of Western Music History, 2 credits of Chinese Ancient Musical History, 2 credits of History of Music In Modern China, 2 credits of elective Orchestral Music Art History, no less than 2 credits of other elective courses.

Direction of Composition Technology and Theory: 8 credits of Sight Singing and Ear Training, 2 credits of Music Theory, 4 credits of Harmony, 2 credits of Counterpoint and Polyphony, 4 credits of Musical Form and Work Analysis, 2 credits of elective Orchestral Music Theory, no less than 2 credits of other elective courses.

  1. Public Foundation Courses (Not less than 48 credits)(Not required for International Students)

Compulsory National Regulations and other Humanities and Social Sciences Category: 3 credits of Cultivation of Ethic Thought and Basis of Law, 2 credits of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, 3 credits of Fundamental Principles of Marxism, 6 credits of Mao Zedong Thought and Introduction to Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, 4 credits of Physical Education, 16 credits of English, 2 credits of Art Introduction, 4 credits of Computer Science, 1 credit of Military Theory, 1 credit of Entrance Education, 2 credits of Government, no less than 4 credits of other elective courses.

  1. Practice (No less than 32 credits)

No less than 31 credits of Major Practice: 14 credits of Instrumental Ensemble, 4 credits of Chamber Music, 4 credits of Orchestra Practice(Orchestra Fragment), 2 credits of Graduation Paper, 2 credits of graduation concert, 5 credits of other practices. Other practices include several of activities in school or out of school. During the practice, students shall finish all kinds of activities that specified by the institute or the department. It includes 2 credits of Graduation Practice (1 credit in the first semester of the forth grade and 1 credit in the second semester). Graduation Practice credits are all given by Orchestral Instruments Department, students shall finish it within the required time and participate in all practice activities stipulated by the institute and the department(includes rehearsals and performances), and students shall not influence the study of Graduation Practice because of other activities out of school. The credits of Graduation Practice can not be replaced by other credits.

Not less than 1 credit of Society Practice and 1 credit of that shall of Military Practice (Not Required for International Students).

  1. No less than 6 credits of a course of lectures.

  • Courses mentioned here like Harmony, Polyphony Analysis and Musical Form and Work Analysis are all belonging to B-class courses.
